“No Kings” Rally, June, 2025, Middlebury, Vermont
A few weeks ago I received an email from a dear friend that she sent to her whole email group.
Dear friends,
I am writing to all of you to encourage you to attend your local "No Kings" rally on March 28. We have several near us in Vermont and they all have their advantages, so I'm sure you can find a site that is convenient and suits you. I don't usually advocate political activity in this way, but the situation in our country now seems to call for it and I truly believe it is one of the few things that may help. It will certainly make you feel better:)
Thanks so much and happy spring!
Our friend is confined to a wheelchair and has been for some time. She has attended every “No Kings” rally. We were lucky to take her to one of them. She was sure we stayed for the whole event.
I am now moved to do something similar with this blog post.…I encourage you to join a “No Kings” event on March 28th, wherever you are.

As further inspiration to find courage and resolve to show up…
I just saw a post from March 24th, documenting Palestinian and Israeli mothers holding hands, walking barefoot through the streets of Rome in a protest demanding protection from violence for children. They will visit Pope Leo XIV. One mother leader spoke, “Millions of mothers in Israel, Palestine, and Iran in all the regions…. We do not want our children to be killed. That is all. We are demanding peace, dignity, protection, respect, freedom. That is what our children deserve.”
Yesterday I listened to and read Timothy Snyder’s piece on Substack. He writes,
Next Saturday, March 28th, I will join millions of Americans taking part on No Kings protests throughout the country. I hope you will join in. Everything is at stake.
Prosperity. The wealth of workers is handed to oligarchs.
The Constitution. One person seeks unrestrained power.
Justice. The innocent are punished while the guilty believe in impunity.
Peace. Americans kill and die in a war whose purpose is to keep us down.
Democracy. Those in power seek to eliminate the right to vote. .
All of this can be seen. All of this can be stopped. A better America is around the corner.
And protest is the first step to that better future. We know that non-violent protest works. It helps to stop authoritarian takeovers. And it opens the way for a better politics to come.
Snyder writes that nonviolent protests change the atmosphere…the majority will not be silent. They inspire others to join. They affirm freedom. They keep us organized and help win elections. They bring joy. We are not alone. They change us. They help us see and work toward a better future.
Snyder concludes this way.
Please step up. And step out. Everything depends on this. On us.
Find a place to protest on March 28th.
